Your questions, answered
Here are the questions people most often ask about celebrant ceremonies. I enjoy talking to people, so if there’s something you need to know – or you’d simply like to discuss your ideas – please get in touch.

What is a celebrant?
What is a celebrant?
A celebrant is a person who performs ceremonies marking some of life’s biggest milestones, like births, weddings, vow renewals, gender affirmation and funerals. A celebrant can conduct ceremonies independently from any beliefs, but will happily incorporate religious or spiritual elements into the ceremony. You can choose where you would like the ceremony to be without restrictions, and a celebrant can perform traditional or contemporary ceremonies that are heartfelt, bespoke and meaningful – crafting your story of love and life’s events.
What is the difference between a registrar and a celebrant?
A registrar is employed by your local government and conducts legally binding marriage and civil partnership ceremonies, in your local register office or a building or space licensed for civil weddings. The ceremony, including the vows, must not contain any religious beliefs or phrases – which limits where you can have your ceremony, what you can say in your vows and whether you can include religious elements. If you choose a celebrant-led ceremony, you simply get the legalities done first. Jane can guide you through the process to make sure you’re not paying more than you need to.
Getting the legal part done
How do I get the legal side done before a celebrant-led wedding?
You must complete the legal marriage or civil partnership requirements separately through a register office. Fees and appointment options vary by council and can change, so please check directly with your local registration service for the current requirements and charges. Jane can explain how your celebrant-led ceremony fits alongside the legal process.
Making it yours
Where can I hold a celebrant-led ceremony?
Anywhere you like. You may want your wedding on a beautiful beach – North Wales has the most stunning coastline, and Jane can advise you on locations and the climate. Perhaps you both have a favourite place, like a forest walk or a park. There are no restrictions, which makes your day so special and memorable.
Can I have rituals or religious elements in my ceremony?
Yes, you can. Perhaps you would like a blended ceremony with a religious ritual incorporated into the service, or to honour one of your family’s religious beliefs with a particular ritual as part of your vows. A celebrant will craft your service with any religious or spiritual beliefs blended into your ceremony exactly how you would like. Explore wedding rituals.
