What is a direct cremation?
A direct cremation is an unattended cremation. Your loved one is collected by the chosen funeral director, cared for and then cremated without a service. More and more people pre-plan their funeral this way – it’s simple, often pre-paid and usually more affordable.
But without a service to attend, families can be left feeling they haven’t had the chance to say a final farewell – and that can make it harder to begin grieving.
That’s why more families are choosing to hold a separate celebration of life or memorial ceremony – a chance to gather, share stories and say goodbye properly, even if the cremation itself was unattended.
